Gum Disease Treatment

When gums are healthy, there is a small groove around each tooth between the tooth and the gum and it is 1-2mm deep.  This is how deep the toothbrush can only reach down.  When there is gum disease, that shallow groove is much deeper leading to a gradual and increasingly deeper detachment of the gum from the tooth. Soon, the bone surrounding the tooth starts to shrink away, too. Unfortunately, the loss of bone around your teeth cannot be reversed. It is impossible to clean those deep areas at home and that is what we treat with special techniques.

If left untreated, gum disease can lead to lose teeth and eventually premature tooth loss.

At Creswick Dental Centre, we check for signs of gum disease at every full exam and recall appointment.  Once it is diagnosed, treatment to remove the cause of the disease is usually carried out over a series of appointments.  With regular ongoing professional maintenance, gum disease can usually be brought under control and gum health maintained for as long as possible.
