IIt is important to us and to our patients that all our patients understand their options and all of the ways that their dental needs can be met.
We want our patients to understand the costs of treatment as best as can be predicted and the nature of the treatment along with the risks and likely outcomes of treatment.
This means that we have a consent process that involves the essential aspects of consent- being.
- An explanation of the costs in writing.
- An explanation of the options for treatment in writing.
- An explanation of the cost of inaction.
- An explanation expected outcomes and potential unexpected outcomes of treatment.
- An opportunity for patients to ask questions to their satisfaction; and
- An opportunity for us to be sure that patients understand their clinical needs and decisions.
Costs are important to be disclosed for all and any treatment and it is important that the nature of the treatment is well understood by all of our patients.
We ask that all patients ask questions of us about the treatment before during and after the treatment so that we can communicate effectively and make sure that any treatment provided is undertaken with appropriate knowledge and understanding by our patients.
There is no definite answer as everyone’s mouth and lifestyle habits are unique. Generally speaking, Dr Costa recommends booking an exam and clean at the Creswick Dental Centre every six months as this is a good amount of time to catch any potential dental issues early.
